Band Member Moments

In this gallery we highlight and celebrate special moments or accomplishments that individual members of our Band wish to share.

March 26th, 2016 - Johnny Reid Concert

Scottish-Canadian country music star Johnny Reid was in town last night to play at a sold-out TD Place.  As noted in the following link to the “pipes | drums”  web-site, Reid is in the midst of a 47-city tour and in every city he loves to bring on side drummers to accompany his song “My Heart Beats Like a Drum”.

Last night his two drummers were Bruce Hewat and Jeff Leblanc.  Every once in a while pipers get to do something cool on a big stage, but how awesome to get a couple of our drummers featured!!!!

Here's a link to an early Youtube video of Bruce and Jeff debuting as country/western stars. (they come on stage at about the 1:35 min mark)

Well done guys.  That’s phenomenal.

Honour to Pipe Sgt. Gilbert Young - February 9th, 2016

Ottawa NCR Pipe Sgt. Gilbert Young was recognized in a 6/8 march composed by Major Archie Cairns, entitled “Pipe Sergeant Gilbert Young”

Major Archie Cairns is one of the most respected Pipe Majors in the world. Amongst hundreds of achievements he was the piper for the Queen’s Coronation Ball at the Savoy Hotel in 1953; he graduated first in his class at the Army School of Piping at Edinburgh Castle under Capt John MacLellan (Colin MacLellan’s father); and in 1966 he took an RCAF quartette to the World Championships in Glasgow where they placed 5th behind Glasgow Police, Muirheads, Edinburgh Police and Shotts (Gilbert Young was one of the pipers in that quartette).

Father and Son Moment - Aug 1, 2014

A proud moment for father PM Graeme Ogilvie and his son Iain Ogilvie as they played together for the first time on parade. The Friday night Maxville Tattoo was Iain's first appearance with the Band. A special family moment never to be forgotten.
